Kathleen Senior Portraits – Coventry CT Senior Photography
Meet Kathleen, a newly entered 12th grade high school senior making her way to graduating this year from East Catholic of 2027 and starting her life as a young woman. Her mom contacted me back in April and booked the All-Inclusive Senior Session for her daughter. Kathleen is an outgoing young woman who loves the beach and playing volleyball and has been since she was little. There were so many gorgeous images to select from, mom dad and Kathleen added on additional images to the package. This is always an option for all clients, and I’m always so touched when clients love their gallery so much and don’t want to leave any images behind.
Senior Portrait Sessions are the perfect way to capture your teenager in all their growth within their last year of high school; it’s where they grow from the teenager you know them to be into a young, mature adult handling life as we know it. Being a mother to five of my own children, these sessions always do tug at my heart strings. Since I only take on a few senior portrait sessions every year, availability is limited for these milestone sessions, but do I sure love and adore capturing these sessions. For her senior session, she shopped and selected her wardrobe from Nordstrom, Altered State, Abercrombie and Hello Molly.
How to Choose the Right Senior Photographer for You
Your senior year is a milestone you only experience once. Between the excitement of graduation, making memories with friends, and looking ahead to what comes next, your senior portraits are a chance to freeze this very special chapter in time.
Before booking a session, take some time to really look through a photographer’s work. Don’t just look at one or two favorite images on their social media. Browse their website, galleries, and full sessions.
Do you love their style? Do the images feel natural, timeless, fun, editorial, colorful, romantic, or whatever style feels most like you?
Do you like how they photograph people? Look at expressions, posing, lighting, backgrounds, and how comfortable their seniors appear in front of the camera.
Is their work consistent? One beautiful image can happen in any session. Look at complete galleries and see if the photographer consistently produces images you would be proud to have hanging on your wall.
Do you connect with the photographer? This one is so important. You want someone who makes you feel comfortable, listens to your ideas, helps you with posing, and makes the experience fun. Your photographer isn’t just taking pictures—they’re helping you create an experience you’ll remember.
Quality vs. Quantity – I completely understand that budgets are different for every family, and choosing a photographer is a personal decision. So, I recommend when you’re comparing photographers, don’t make your decision based solely on how many images you receive or how inexpensive a package is.
Sometimes, less really can be more. Think about the quality of the images, the photographer’s experience, their editing style, the time and attention they give you, the overall experience, and most importantly—whether you genuinely love their work.
Your senior portraits are something you may look back on for decades. They will be part of your graduation announcements, displayed in your home, shared with family and friends, and become memories of who you were at this very special moment in your life.
You don’t need hundreds of photographs if you don’t love them. You need photographs that make you stop and smile and think, “That’s me. That’s exactly how I want to remember myself.”
What If You’re Unhappy With Your Senior Photos? If you’ve already had your senior session and you’re disappointed with the results, you’re not alone—and it doesn’t mean you have to settle. Maybe you don’t feel like yourself in the images. Maybe you don’t love the posing or locations. Maybe the editing isn’t what you expected. Or maybe you simply don’t have enough images that you truly love. If that’s the case, consider reaching out to another photographer.
A second senior session can be a completely different experience. The right photographer can help you feel more comfortable, guide you through posing, choose locations that fit your personality, and create images that feel authentic to you and your style.
And if you’re nervous about doing it again, remember: you are not supposed to be a professional model. That’s the photographer’s job. You should be able to show up, be yourself, and trust your photographer to guide you.
This Is Your Moment. Your senior portraits aren’t just pictures. They’re about capturing you—right now, at this exact point in your life. The person you are today will change. You’ll grow, experience new things, meet new people, and start an entirely new chapter. That’s what makes senior portraits so meaningful.
So, take your time when choosing your photographer. Look beyond the number of images included or the price tag. Look at the quality, experience, connection, and finished product.
Find someone whose work makes you excited to be in front of the camera. Someone whose images make you say, “I want THAT to be me.” Because this milestone deserves to be remembered beautifully.
And years from now, when you look back at your senior portraits, I hope you don’t just see a picture of yourself. I truly hope you see the beginning of everything that came next.
