Maternity sessions are one of my favorite types of sessions. Meeting expectant parents for the first time and talking to them about their excitement for the new baby that will be joining their family, its absolutely wonderful. The joy on their faces when talking about their baby is simply beautiful. Some of my clients will know the sex of the baby and some are waiting to find out until the birth, either way the excitement shared with me is beautiful. I love chatting with my maternity clients and learning about their story of how they met and fell in love. Their likes and dislikes, silly stories about their first date.
Prior to the session my expectant mamas will come in by appointment to look through and try on gowns from my maternity wardrobe, Melissa Hartigan Photography has a beautiful maternity wardrobe which is available for use to all expecting mamas. I encourage the use of at least one gown. There are so many colors and styles to choose from, each gown was chosen to accentuate the pregnant body, showing off that gorgeous baby bump.
When it comes to the session I love capturing the love between my clients, to capture the joy and excitement they feel for one another and the baby mom is growing in her belly. These images are meant to be treasured, ones to be kept and looked back on many many years from now. To show your baby what he or she looked like when they were growing in your belly. With each click of my shutter my goal is to capture their connection and love, I want the emotion they feel for each other to be captured in their images. Of course I will help them pose, help with hand placement and so on, but then I let them be. I encourage them to think about baby, to think about holding baby for the first time, to think about what he or she will look like. When they do the emotions that come forward are simply amazing, here is a little peek into a recent maternity session.
